US show admits Bluey rip-off

Producers of a new US-made children’s cartoon series have conceded that it’s a blatant rip-off of globally popular Brisbane-made program Bluey while denying it’s too right-wing for American children.

I have had access to several episodes of the new program, Chip Chilla, which features a family of chinchillas. (main picture)

I can confirm that it is illustrated in a style closely resembling the blockbuster Bluey series. (below)

The program, airing on a US children’s streaming service, is produced by the right-wing media company The Daily Wire.

A spokesperson for The Daily Wire told me that the company had based its series on Bluey for good reasons.

“We liked Bluey as soon as we saw an episode, especially the way it teaches kids valuable life lessons in an entertaining and easy-to-absorb way,” the spokesperson said.

“That’s why we thought we’d make our own series for young kids that delivers uplifting and easily understood stories about issues like overturning Roe versus Wade, the right to bear arms, how the 2020 election was stolen, and the visionary leadership that President – still President – Donald J Trump is giving our nation.

“We just decided to use a different animal family to tell those stories.”

Instead of a family of Australian blue heeler dogs, the makers of Chip Chilla based their new series around a family of chinchillas.

The spokesperson told me there was a very good reason the producers decided on making stars of rodents native to the Andes Mountains of South America.

“Chinchillas are cute and furry little animals that lend themselves to representing a modern-day family facing modern-day problems,” the spokesperson said.

“But also, if the show is axed we have already shot a stand-by final episode in which the entire family is discovered to be illegal immigrants and is deported back to South America, well south of President Trump’s US-Mexican border wall,” the spokesperson said.
