As this is the last Xcretas-of-the-Week column before the Voice referendum, our Xcrement judges have loosened the rules and allowed in some Xcreta comments from this morning. Yes, hours after our normal Sunday midnight deadline for clearing our Xcreta barrel!
And more than that, they have selected three of those late comments sparked by this morning’s Seven Sunrise program (above and below) as joint winners for the past week … ah, ahem… and a few hours.

And why? Natalie Barr’s grilling of PM Albanese is the perfect example of how the great bulk of this nation’s woeful mainstream mediocre is going to act after the likely defeat of the Voice referendum: a savage, vicious and unrelenting attack on Albanese with no other purpose than to vindicate Peter Dutton’s decision to oppose the Voice and to do what it can to turn his belief that there are votes to be gained and accommodation at The Lodge to be had from taking that stand.
Can The Bug at this point rather immodestly stick in a little meme it made itself the other day?

Before we leave Seven’s effort this morning – and we understand Kerry Stokes has already approved a substantial payrise for Ms Barr – let’s remind ourselves of another example of the network’s sterling, balanced, professional brand of quality journalism displayed throughout the Voice debate.
Here’s Professor Dr Megan Davis and Josh Butler in discussion over the Seven network Spotlight program’s attempts to fan the flames of dissent over an issue that should have been dead, buried and cremated long ago – the number of pages in the Uluru statement from the heart.

That Spotlight could allocate five extra seconds to this bullshit rubbish let alone five minutes shows that program and all who lie in her have fuck-all interest in real journalism.
Our Xcreta judges – and we at The Bug generally – never absolve our supposedly balanced and fair Australian Broadcasting Corporation from blame when it comes to such matters, particularly in the era of Newscorpse and Scott Morrison sweetheart Ita Buttrose as its chair. A fair number of once-proud, former Aunty staffers have lamented the ABC’s drift to the right of recent years.
Cue Peter van Onselen, who made the very valid point on Sunday’s Insiders that a vicious spray against Albanese by ex-Greens fruitcake Lidia Thorpe should not have been shown. “Frankly, we shouldn’t even air it,” he said of her comments that he labelled “one of the most stupid things I’ve ever heard, to be fair.” And he was spot on.
It was pure unadulteated, Newscorpse-standard bullshit from a woman who believes the Voice referendum is “an act of genocide against my people”. Thorpe doesn’t need to be listened to. She needs to be wrapped up in a straitjacket and injected with something helpful.
Insiders host David Speers clearly would have totally disagreed with van Onselen, especially as he had just shown an extended clip of Thorpe’s rant with this lead-in: “I want to show a little of her response..” – oh, David, we bet you did! – after which he asked: “Was that fair?”
No, you fucking moron. It wasn’t fair and van Onselen was correct in saying it should not have been run. Neither just then or at the start of the program as well. Talk about a double dip for a total fruitcake. Oh, Aunty, what the fuck have you become?
Speers ran the exact same rubbish on Friday’s News Breakfast and by not immediately criticising it there and then as well, he allowed the clear impression to form that he believed her comments had some merit and/or weight. Is that a fair assessment of where you stand, David?
Maybe the lesson here is that you can take Ita and Speersie out of Newscorpse but you can never, ever, take Newscorpse out of either of them.
Here’s Peter s. grumpyoldfool62 etc on that exact point, and we forgive him for mixing up future Australlian prime minister Jacinta Price with Thorpe. Both are interchangeable and with their rubbish No stands are badly letting down their first Nations mob. Peter s., we got James Campbell and James Morrow mixed up yesterday. Sometimes it’s easy to mix up LNP publicists!

And before we leave the media, here’s the wonderful Victoria Fielding reinforcing our earlier view of what the MSM game plan will be after next Saturday with this piece of risible nonsense from Andrew Bolt. Sadly, Victoria, not just at Newscorpse.

Part 2 tomorrow!
