Jacinta, darling, don’t change a thing!
That’s my simple advice to the new Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan.
Look, I appreciate she probably had to say something to the media after Daniel Andrews’ shock and unexpected departure from politics… but really?
That she was bringing her own approach? A new style of leadership? A different way of doing things? Can I just bluntly ask: WHY?
I’d be keeping the Daniel Andrews template firmly in place. It seemed to work a treat for Victorian Labor these past nine years, including landslide victories in 2018 and 2022.
For example, would Jacinta like to tell us how she might perhaps handle the next deadly epidemic that hits Australia very differently to how Andrews handled COVID 19?
Let’s say there’s a new infection that’s killing 800-plus oldies mainly in private care. There’s no vaccine yet so whose side is Jacinta going to take: the people’s side by implementing the state’s top media officer’s advice or the side of business and what the Liberals and Nationals demanded from the get-go: that we live and let die with the disease?
It seems to me that decision by Andrews alone let to the years of vilification of him by sadly not just the Murdoch shitsheets, the Herald Sun and The Australian, but sadly also The Age, the commercial TV stations, the rabid, far-right radio shock jock Neil Mitchell and the ABC. The corrupt and polarising Dictator Dan. Always in IBAC’s sights. Sending the state broke. The pollie hated by Victorians.
Will this now be Jacinta Allan’s MO: no more countless days of endless media calls as Andrews patiently explained the government’s lock-down decisions and stayed remarkable calm as media types such as Rachel Baxendale spewed right-wing shit at him at every turn.
Next time, will Jacinta’s different way of doing things mean that she’ll avoid that abuse by being more pro-business? Become the darling of coffee shop owners everywhere?
But here’s my final piece of advice to Jacinta. If she thinks she’ll be a better Labor Premier – a more effective one on election days – by sucking up to the toxic, anti-Labor media in Victoria, she’s got another think coming.
They’re not going to give Jacinta Allan the time of day. Their daily mission from the get-go so obvious mid this week to 6pm on election day on November 28, 2026, is to eat her and her Labor team for breakfast, lunch and dinner as a tired, over-the-hill, government of economic vandals striving for a totally undeserved fourth term.
Try to curry favour with this cunts, Jacinta, and where Victorians saw strength in Andrews they will only see weakness in you.
Andrews’ 55-45 two-party preferred result in 2022 that the mainstream mediocre in Victoria fought so hard to avoid through biased and unbalanced reporting that was the exact antithesis of quality journalism will be a total pipe-dream under your leadership.
Victoria’s mainstream mediocre is going to treat you like shit each and every day you are in office. I’d fling back that favour in smelly spadefuls. Which, to be fair, became part of Dan’s winning template towards the end of his term too.
