INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY:
One Nation leader Senator Pauline Hanson has called for the sacking of senior public servants for rejecting a copyright application she lodged.
The Queensland Senator has also foreshadowed legal action seeking compensation for loss of income following a decision by IP Australia, the federal government agency supervising intellectual property (IP) rights, against approving her copyright application.
“I want those in charge at IP Australia sacked because of their clearly woke and politically motivated decision to reject my application to copyright the phrase ‘I’m not a racist but…’,” she said.
“I believe I was the first person anywhere in the world ever to utter those words many, many years ago.
“You’ve always been able to hear it in almost any conversation whether you were walking into a public bar, sitting down at an RSL or leagues club, chatting over the fence with a neighbour, or attending a Liberal, National or One Nation party room meeting.
“But nowadays, ever since the voice to parliament issue arose, every second person in Australia, in fact probably many more, are using my words will-nilly.
“This is my phrase and anyone using it should have been paying me royalties for many, many years and those who use it today or in the future also ought to pay up.
“To date I’ve lost countless thousands of dollars, probably millions, by people not paying me.
“It’s my intellectual property and everyone knows my intellect is priceless but nevertheless should be highly prized and highly priced,” Senator Hanson said.
