Network Ten’s spin-off plans

Hot on the heels of news that Robert Irwin, son of the late “Crocodile Hunter” Steve Irwin, is set to co-host the next series of Network Ten’s I’m a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here comes news of a spin-off series the network hopes will be just as popular as the original.

Young Robert will join Julia Morris to host the next and 10th series of the hit show, replacing current co-host (Note to subs: Fucked if I know who the current co-host is. I’ve seen his pic but have no idea who he is. I’ll find out his name and insert it later before publication.)

I must admit that I have never been a big fan of the show and often wonder which dictionary the producers and developers of the show used when determining the definition of “celebrity”.

Nevertheless the fact Irwin will be co-hosting series 10 of IACGMOOH shows that there is definitely an audience for a reality show that sends a group of a dozen or so actors, comedians, sports stars, or cast members of other reality shows into a remote location and forces them to undertake tasks and challenges that put them well outside their comfort zone.

But the really big news I can break exclusively to readers of The Bug is that Network 10 has commissioned a spin-off of IACGMOOH.

The new show to be called I’m An Arsehole, Leave Me Here will work on a variation of the concept behind the original.

It will star a group of well-known Aussies who are all sent to a jungle or remote locale and stay there. No matter how many tasks and challenges they perform and complete successfully, they are never brought back to civilisation.

It’s certainly a different take on the original and may well gain popularity as a long-form production.

I am told by Network Ten insiders that the first cast for IAALMH will consist of federal Opposition Leader Peter Dutton and most of his frontbench, including one of his more annoying shadow ministers, Senator Michaelia Cash. (main picture)

I’m also told that the very first episode is a real hoot, especially the bit when Barnaby Joyce reacts to the news broken to participants by the co-hosts that the show will have a no-alcohol policy.

Producers of the new show apparently had a hard task in finding co-hosts for the new show, since they too will be sent to the chosen remote site and will also never return.

My sources tell me the list of potential co-hosts ranked by their annoyingness was exceptionally long but was finally narrowed down to former Network Nine star Daryl Somers and ABC Radio National’s Patricia Karvelas.
