It all ads up for News Crap

Our Media Glass House teams regularly report on efforts by News Crap Australia to destroy the ABC so that the Murdoch media can take over its market or, if pushed, buy it once Rupert and Mini Me son install a right-wing federal government to do their bidding.

Yes, we’re looking at you Peter Dutton, and pretty much anyone else on the Coalition frontbench.

One of News Crap’s favourite tactics is to lambaste the national broadcaster for daring to advertise its wide variety of programs and services.

It was at it again a few days back (main picture) citing … wait for it … “latest data obtained by the think-tank the Institute of Public Affairs…”.

So we all know what credibility we can place on the whole yarn.

But what always tickles our MGH teams when these stories appear with boring regularity is that News Crap Australia outlets report them with a straight face.

The organisation is notorious for its own cross-promotion and the use of full-page ads in its “news” papers to plug its related Sky News shows, its Binge streaming service, its specialised online sports service, its rather wobbly Flash news aggregator, and anything else across the wide portfolio of News Crap Australia’s vested interests.

Of course the difference  with the ABC is that it actually pays for its ads, while good old News Crap Australia just runs its own ads in its own outlets whenever it likes, because it can.

It’s pretty standard practice for a politician under fire to at some stage be christened by the media as “embattled”.

It happens even if the pollie in question is totally relaxed and couldn’t give a rat’s arse about attacks by their opponents or media outlets.

Editors or reporters seem to take it upon themselves to confer the adjective to make their stories a tad more exciting.

Our MGH teams pondered such behaviour after reading an item this week about Victorian Premier Dan Andrews in the national broadshit. (below)

The Australian’s Victorian political reporter referred to the cancelation of the 2026 Commonwealth Games by the Andrews Government as a “scandal”.

Really? It may have been a shock decision, a bungle, or even a clusterfuck but is the Victorian community genuinely scandalised?

In the humble opinion of our MGH researchers, no. But keep an eye out for the word being applied not just to the Games decision but to pretty much every move of the Andrews Government as a whole from here on.

To end this edition of our MGH we just want to note for the record News Crap Australia’s ongoing efforts as the Liberal Party’s advertising agency to push the cause of nuclear power.

Our humble little media watchdog has been keeping tabs on the very regular appearance of very pro-nuke items across the Murdoch empire that help argue the case – not always honestly – for what is going to be a key Liberal Party policy come the next federal election.

Below are just a few more that our MGH teams came across in recent days from the usual suspects (and by that we mean the regular tired old predictable hacks) Nick Cater, Judith Sloan, and LNP Senator Matt Canavan, all of whose opinions we apparently can’t do without.
