Georgia jail gets ready

Prison officials in the US state of Georgia say they are ready to accommodate Donald Trump if he is re-elected as President next year and is also convicted of charges brought by the state against him for attempting to overturn 2020 presidential election results.

Mr Trump faces several federal lawsuits related to his efforts to stay in power after losing the 2020 election.

If he returns to the White House he could, as President, scrap federal charges against him or pardon himself if convicted of federal crimes but would have no power to block or overturn state-based convictions flowing from litigation such as that initiated by Georgia.

“We’re prepared for that eventuality,” a spokesperson for the Georgia Department of Corrections said.

“It’s very comfortable and we’ve even installed a replica of the famous Resolute desk used by many presidents in the Oval Office.

“We just have to make a few minor finishing touches, such as installing a Diet Coke vending machine that will be within reach of Mr Trump through the cell bars. As will several machines dispensing oversized Big Mac meals at the simple push of a button.

“We think he’ll be very happy with the new facilities and will soon feel right at home,” the spokesperson said.

Opposition Leader Peter Dutton has congratulated the Matildas on losing last night’s Women’s Football World Cup against England.

“I am pleased to see that the Matildas deliberately lost against England in an effort to reject Prime Minister Anthony Albanese’s woke, lefty call for a public holiday if the team went on to win the cup,” Mr Dutton said.

“Australians can be very proud of the team. The brave actions of the Matildas underline the fact that Mr Albanese and Labor are to blame for this loss. There is no doubt about that,” he said.

Efforts to locate more bodies on the fire ravaged Hawaiian island of Maui will be suspended for the duration of US President Joe Biden’s visit next Monday.

The White House has announced that the President will visit the island to meet the families of wildfire victims and those who survived the disaster.

However, a Hawaiian Government spokesperson confirmed that Mr Biden would not be able to meet emergency services personnel involved in search and recovery efforts.

“In particular, all response teams searching for bodies among the fire ruins will be withdrawn from Maui for the duration of the President’s visit,” the spokesperson said.

“This step is being taken on the instructions of the White House which we understand does not wish to see a repeat of incidents that occurred during the President’s previous visits to natural disaster sites when numerous cadaver dogs surrounded Mr Biden and pointed their paws at him.”
