Their! They’re! All is forgiven

The column that has fun with the smaller mistakes and missteps of Australia’s mainstream mediocre; that pays homage to those sweet little fishes that individually don’t amount to a full meal but collectively can cause a tummy upset over the overall state of the once great and noble craft of journalism in this country.

This column does get very, very picky from time to time, meaning we sometimes highlight silly little mistakes that we know the journo at fault well knows the difference and gets things wright 99 times out of 100.

Sorry, we meant right there. But you get our drift. Any scribe worth their salt knows their its from their it’s and their there’s from their theirs and their they’res.

But that doesn’t stop us on this occasion from saying hello to ABC Sports that presented online its five takes from a day’s play at The Oval and this slice of that (top and below).

Anyone can make a simple mistake but Mediocre Bytes is often amazed at how long these things stay on sight … sorry, site …. and never get corrected until they expire in due coarse… sorry, course.

Still on cricket, we did like this other contribution from ABC Sport after the first day’s play at The Oval.

Warner’s wicket a surprise! You’ve got to be kidding, Aunty! The only surprise for any true cricket tragic following this faltering, spluttering Australian men’s Test side is that he lasted so long.

Okay, now here’s one from the “no wonder he got caught!’ category of court reporting.

Take whatever time you need. Think about it.

And finally, a silly little subediting hiccup from today’s Sun-Herald. The Canterbury and Dolphin teams are going to be exhausted after their two clashes today.

This mistake was in an early country edition and to the Sun-Herald‘s credit, the stuffup was rectified online this morning and the Cowboys/Gold Coast Titans lineups were included, making sense of Nick Wright’s comments at the bottom.
