Mr Mitarachi was spotted on holiday on Patmos Island in the Agean Sea as wildfires that have hit numerous Greek communities over the past fortnight, continued to spread.

Speaking through a translator, a spokesperson for Prime Minister Mitsotakis said the former minister’s resignation was unavoidable.

“I can’t think of any civilised nation on earth where such behaviour would be tolerated and where any responsible member of a cabinet left their post to go on holidays while wildfires were burning,” the spokesperson told The Bug.

“Mr Mitarachi had attempted to stay in his job by declaring that he didn’t hold a hose when it came to wildfires.

“But he quickly realised that such a pathetic and selfish excuse was never going to be acceptable.

“At least Mr Mitarachi the did the right thing by resigning.

“I think any cabinet minister anywhere in the world who had a shred of decency would have done the same thing once they were exposed as deserting their duties and their people.

“I’d hate to think that any civilised nation has anyone in its national leadership who would think for a moment that going on holiday in such circumstances was acceptable.

“It would be even worse if they tried to make pathetic excuses about holding hoses and the like, and wouldn’t quit when they were exposed for doing so.

“What sort of selfish, lying, narcissistic lowlife would they be?” the spokesperson said.
