AEC hit by website woes

THE VOICE REFERENDUM:

The Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) says it is not to blame for a problem thousands of people have experienced when accessing its website in recent days.

An AEC spokesperson confirmed that the commission had received numerous complaints from people seeking to read online the “yes” and “no” cases for the upcoming referendum on an indigenous voice to federal parliament.

“The complaints started earlier this week soon after we uploaded to our website both of the 2,000-word arguments for and against the voice,” the spokesperson said.

“At first we didn’t believe the complaints were real, but we went online ourselves and found they were legitimate.”

The spokesperson said those accessing the online “yes” case had no trouble reading the 2,000-word argument supporting a constitutionally enshrined voice.

“But the trouble started when they or anyone else visiting our site then clicked the link that took them to the ‘no’ case,” she said.

“As soon as they landed on the ‘no’ page they were literally hit by a torrent of unadulterated shit square in the face. (main picture)

“It’s the strangest thing and our expert staff in our IT department say they have never seen anything remotely like it.

“So far nobody can explain how the shit in the 2,000-word ‘no’ argument can materialise and be projected through a user’s computer screen. It’s a total mystery.”

The AEC spokesperson also confirmed that the Commission had been hit with a series of personal injury claims brought by people who had used its site to visit the “no” case.

“They are all blaming the AEC for getting them shitfaced – and not in a nice way,” she said.

“But it’s not our fault and we’ll be vigorously defending the claims.”
