“Our client has made it patently and publicly clear that nothing happened between him and Ms Higgins on that night and he remains very, very, hurt indeed that negative rumours still persist despite his strenuous and heartfelt denials as one of life’s true gentlemen.

Australia’s ambassador to the United States, former prime minister Kevin Rudd, has downplayed comments made by President Joe Biden following their first official meeting at the White House. (below)

Mr Rudd insisted their brief meeting had been “productive” after Mr Biden told reporters and photographers assembled in the Oval Office: “I never thought I’d get to meet Logan Roy in person. I’m a big fan. I just wish the President was here to meet him too.”

The President was ushered out of the office by senior staff immediately after making the remark.
