News has leaked out about plans by His Royal Highness William, the Prince of Wales, for revamping the long, demanding, and ancient coronation ceremony his father King Charles II recently endured. (below)
But while news stories this week spoke in general terms of the Prince’s desire to simplify the ceremony when his time comes to inherit the crown, only I can now reveal details of the proposed new ritual he is planning.
My sources within Buckingham Palace tell me the heir to the throne has already held numerous meetings with relevant courtiers to draft plans that can be swung into action if and when, God forbid, the King passes.
His Royal Highness has made it clear that whenever he succeeds to the throne, be it in 10 years, 20 years, 30 years, or more, he wants a far simpler and shorter coronation ceremony than his father’s.

For starters, I am told that he has rejected the idea of using Westminster Abbey for his coronation and instead he envisages the event taking place on the footpath opposite Buckingham Palace and has already undertaken a number of rehearsals. (main picture)
My sources also tell me that Prince William has refused to use any of the horse-drawn royal carriages at his disposal to make the trip to his coronation.
Instead he will use a scooter – an unpowered model – to travel alone from the palace to the ceremony.
He will also not wear any of the lavish robes and tunics King Charles donned for his coronation, preferring a plain lounge suit.
Finally, to cut down on the scale and duration of the ceremony Prince William plans to have the heavy and elaborate St Edward’s crown delivered by an Uber Eats drone which will hover over his royal head and gradually lower it at the appropriate moment.
