AVIATION:
Qantas has denied it deliberately picked senior company executive Vanessa Hudson as its new CEO purely because of the stark contrast she provides to outgoing airline chief Alan Joyce.
Since the announcement of her elevation to the post of chief executive officer, comment within the aviation sector and beyond has centred on the national airline’s efforts to clearly differentiate Ms Hudson from Mr Joyce.
But Qantas spokesperson, Joy Stick, denied special efforts were made to elevate Ms Hudson from within the airline unlike Mr Joyce who was has led Qantas for the past 15 years.
“I want to deny outright that Ms Hudson – who was born in Australia and has worked for Qantas for almost 30 years – was a predetermined choice just so we could contrast her with Dublin-born Mr Joyce,” Ms Stick said.
“I also want to deny that we somehow stage managed the news conference announcing Ms Hudson’s appointment to stress other differences in the personal characteristics of her and Mr Joyce. We did no such thing.”
However, Ms Stick would not explain why Ms Hudson wore a Driza-Bone oilskin coat, RM Williams boots, and an Akubra hat with corks to the news conference.
Nor would she explain why Ms Hudson made repeated references to her enjoyment of heterosexual intercourse and why the new CEO shared the lectern at the the media conference at Qantas headquarters in Sydney with several native animals. (main picture)
Ms Stick refused to comment when asked why Ms Hudson had ended the news conference by performing a whip-cracking display while singing Waltzing Matilda.
She also would not be drawn on why the official statement announcing the new CEO had stated that Ms Hudson was a “true blue Aussie sheila” who had two daughters “both conceived through heterosexual intercourse”.
