US MEDIA:
Rupert Murdoch’s right-wing US cable TV network Fox News has turned to artificial intelligence (AI) technology to fill the void left by the firing of its popular prime-time commentator Tucker Carlson.
Sources within the network said both Rupert and his son Lachlan had approved the use of a new virtual host to front the program set to replace Tucker Carlson Tonight.
The new computer-generated host, Dolph Fitler, (main picture) will host the first edition of his/its new program The Bunker from tonight US time.
“This is yet another example of Rupert Murdoch’s brilliant tactical business mind at work,” a Fox source said.
“Some time ago Rupert Murdoch asked the Fox Network’s backroom technicians to start investigating the use of computer-generated hosts as a way to save money.
“Both Rupert and Lachlan have always known that it’s the right-wing views on Fox that attract viewers, not necessarily those who deliver those views.
“That’s why they have embraced AI as a way to tailor a variety of right-wing views and pump them out 24/7 if need be.
“They saw it as a way to cut costs to the bone by eventually employing no hosts whatsoever on huge salary packages but keeping viewers happy with far-right content.”
The Fox source said other network hosts were likely to be replaced by an AI version if The Bunker was a hit with viewers.
“The technology is incredible,” the source said. “It enables technicians to fine tune the very personality of a virtual host which can make them serious, light-hearted or just plain batshit crazy.
“A secret long-term test project by Sky News – the Murdochs’ Australian version of Fox – has seen the AI host christened James Morrow deliver what can only be described as wild, totally fact-free bullshit.
“Yet on screen he appears as if he’s human. You’d never know he’s a product of the Fox News labs in the US, although his slight American accent is a bit of a giveaway for those in the know,” the source said.
