A White House spokesperson has added to the confusion surrounding President Joe Biden’s plans for the 2024 US presidential election.

At the weekend Mr Biden told a US television interviewer that he was not yet ready to formally announce his bid for re-election in 2024.

But White House spokesperson, Karine Jean-Pierre, later did little to clarify the President’s plans when asked if the President would be running next year.

“Yes, and no,” she said. “His intention right now is to seek a second term but he won’t be running.”

When pressed for details Ms Jean-Pierre said she was merely trying to give an accurate and honest answer to the question she had been asked.

“Of course if he seeks re-election he won’t be running,” she said. “At his age it’ll be more like a shuffle.”
