INTERNATIONAL AFFAIRS:
Former Australian prime minister Scott Morrison has thrown his hat into the ring to be Scotland’s next First Minister following the unexpected resignation of Nicola Sturgeon.
Mr Morrison described himself as being “a natural choice” to take on the job of leading the Scottish Government.
“Who better than a Scott to lead Scottyland (sic)?,” Mr Morrison told reporters after flying to Tokyo where he is delivering a speech warning about China’s expansionist policies.
At a news conference at the Narita International Airport, Mr Morrison distributed photos of himself designed to enhance his chances of securing the First Minister’s job. (main picture)
“I’m a natural. I’m willing and able to serve as First Minister and to deliver to the Scottyish (sic) people the same type of leadership I gave Australia.
“Everyone knows that I’ve got a lot of experience in leading a government. I’m also universally acclaimed as a marketing genius, which is very important in politics these days.
“I may not be Scottyish (sic) myself but I just love the Scotts (sic) and I’ve seen Braveheart several times.
“I’m also currently streaming old episodes of Monarch of the Glen, Hamish MacBeth, and Taggart.
“The Banshees of Inisherin is also currently my favourite movie of all time.”
When informed that the film was set in Ireland Mr Morrison was unmoved.
“Same thing really, isn’t it?” he said before calling an end to the news conference and walking away from reporters.
When one asked if he would stop to have his photograph taken Mr Morrison declined.
“I don’t hold a pose, mate,” he said and continued walking.
