Trump denies plagiarism

Former US President Donald Trump and declared candidate for the Republic Party’s presidential nomination for the 2024 election has denied plagiarising large parts of the speeches he delivered at weekend rallies in New Hampshire and South Carolina.

Mr Trump spoke at two events for his supporters in the two states that could be key to his efforts to secure the Republican nomination.

A Trump campaign spokesperson said Mr Trump was very happy at “the huge crowds that gathered to hear him” in New Hampshire (main picture) and later in South Carolina.

“The crowds were the biggest of any candidate in the history of political campaigns. Ever. Period,” the spokesperson said in a phone interview with The Bug.

In his rally speeches Mr Trump attacked would-be refugees, made inflammatory remarks about trans people, belittled clean energy initiatives such as wind farms, and disparaged electric vehicles.

But his spokesperson rejected suggestions that Mr Trump had plagiarised his speeches from former Australian prime minister Scott Morrison.

“That’s simply not true,” he said. “Period.”

However, he hung up and did not respond after The Bug asked for clarification of the comment “How good is Australia?” that Mr Trump made at both of his rallies.

Political analysts are calling on Donald Trump to ensure his campaign rhetoric does not incite violence akin to the 6 January 2021 invasion of the US Congress or worse.

The suggestions were made when Mr Trump used the line that US voters had “one shot to save our country” when referencing the 2024 election.

Political observers said Mr Trump should explain why he held up a handgun and a large photo of Florida Governor Ron DeSantis as he spoke the line.

Mr Trump’s South Carolina rally was supported by the state’s senior Republican Party politician, Senator Lindsey Graham.

The senator was a strong supporter of Mr Trump when he served in the White House, distanced himself from him after the 6 January insurrection, but soon after appeared with Mr Trump and has assisted in his attempted political rehabilitation.

Speaking to reporters prior to the South Carolina rally Mr Trump said he was pleased to have Senator Graham join him again. (below)
