Senate bid a real Downer

MELBOURNE: A heartbroken Lady Georgina Downer has just boarded a Sydney-bound flight here and will offer her services to the NSW Liberal Party as a Senate replacement for Jim Molan who today sadly lost a two-year battle with cancer.

Lady Downer is the much-loved daughter of Australia’s longest serving foreign minister Lord Alexander Downer of the Adelaide Hills and as such is a proud sixth-generation member of the colonial family dynasty that basically shaped the Australian nation as we know it today, both pastorally and politically.

“Tim (sic) was a close personal friend who I have always admired for his staunch commitment to the conservative side of politics, as exemplified by his amazing service to this nation as a former major general in the Australian Army and his fearless yet compassionate leadership in Iraq,” Lady Downer told reporters at Tullamarine Airport while carrying an outsized novelty blank cheque made out to the NSW Liberal Party.

Dabbing away tears, Lady Downer said: “Wim (sic) repeatedly told me it was an absolute travesty that I had not yet made it onto the national political scene and do wonderful work for the Australian people just like daddy did.

“He told me so many times: ‘When my work is done, I’d love nothing more than for you to follow in my footsteps’.

“‘You’ll butcher all those weak-kneed, policy-free-zone pricks down there’, Jim told me, if you’ll excuse the French.”

“So, with the NSW’s Liberal Party’s backing, it will be an absolute honour to serve out Kim’s (sic) current six-year-term.”

She also announced her absolute intention to relocate to NSW “should the good people of NSW return me to the Senate in just over five years’ time to continue to honour Flynn’s (sic) selfless public service”.

The Bug understands Lord Downer from his ancestral home Pout House has already contacted senior officials in the NSW branch, demanding that they “do the right thing by my precious darling daughter and for all of Australia’s sake as well”.
