MELBOURNE: The former editor of metropolitan daily the Herald Sun has scoffed at rumours he’s not up to the task of handling his new roles at the paper.
“Okay, I admit I was a little surprised when I was told the shipping news was being added to my new fruit and vegetable markets round but I’m up to the task of doing both well,” Sam Weir told The Bug before heading off to check supply levels and pricing at the Queen Victoria Market (at top) not just of avocados but other fruits and vegetables as well.
“I love this paper and I will not let it down. I think I’ve got a real future here,” Weir said as he hailed a 57 tram in Flinders Street.

MELBOURNE: Andrew Bolt has failed to deliver on his promise to leave Victoria for good if the Andrews Labor government won last Saturday’s state election.
The Bug can report, however, that the broken promise is not completely the fault of Australia’s most-read politics essayist.
The Herald Sun columnist and Sky News Australia celebrity and his furniture trucks were turned around at the SA/Victorian border by South Australian Police just after dawn this morning.
It is understood Bolt was attempting to travel to Western Australia where a sizeable South African migrant population would have meant the reception to his arrival there would not have been quite as hostile as in any other state or territory in the nation.
