FOOD INDUSTRY:
Arnott’s Biscuits has responded to public concerns by announcing the introduction of a new product line to fill the void left by its decision to cease marketing its long-standing Classic Assorted range. (below)

A company spokesperson said the new biscuits would meet consumer demand while also complying with contemporary food labelling laws.
“The Classic Assorted range was introduced so long ago that it predated the current strict laws governing food product description and labelling,” the spokesperson said.
“In producing a new range to take its place, Arnott’s has been acutely aware of the need to comply with those laws.
“At the same time we have worked out a way to make the new range more economical to produce.
“The Classic Assorted range was very expensive to manufacture and had a very low profit margin for us because of the variety of biscuits that were included in each pack.
“But our replacement product will consist of just one big block of the basic biscuit dough that is used in all of our biscuits whatever their name. (main picture)
“It will also be very convenient because consumers can hammer or chisel off whatever portion of the block of biscuit they feel will satisfy them at any particular time they choose to eat it.
“There are other benefits too. Tests in our own industrial kitchens have shown the biscuit block is waterproof.
“That will no doubt disappoint people who like to dunk their biscuits but should be welcomed by people across Australia living in flood zones because they can be used to form a flood-proof wall or levee bank, so it’s a win-win.”
