BUSINESS:
The operator of a new Brisbane-based “gig economy” venture plans to shake up the highly competitive food and beverage home delivery market.
The new company GOYFA (main picture) admits it will face strong competition from established operators such as Uber Eats, Deliveroo, and Menulog.
But owner and CEO, Mal Vernstar, said he was banking on a unique feature of GOYFA’s business model to differentiate his operation.
“Uber Eats, Menulog, and Deliveroo all use a fleet of bike riders who are despatched to pick up and deliver orders to customers’ doors,” Mr Vernstar said.
“But unlike them, GOYFA can give a rolled-gold guarantee that our riders will be at a customer’s door almost immediately, certainly within just minutes of them calling us and placing an order.”
Mr Vernstar said the secret to GOYFA’s forecast success was in its name.
“GOYFA is an acronym that stands for Get Off Your Fat Arse,” he explained.
“Instead of waiting for food to be cooked before being delivered, our riders’ backpacks will be full of the take-away menus of local eateries.
“When a customer orders a particular meal from their favourite local restaurant, our riders will race to their door, hand over a menu and tell them to get off their fat arse and ring the eatery themselves and either walk or drive to pick up their order.
“Our business model certainly epitomises the expression ‘healthy competition’.
“We reckon it’s a real winner,” Mr Vernstar said.
