The only thing the Media Glass House is going to say about the heading (above) that appeared in The Sun-Herald the other day is this: “Well, it certainly didn’t do her chances any harm!”
Of course, newspaper headlines can be funny for a number of reasons. The one above fits into the “dead body found in cemetery” category.
Others rely, of course, on the failure of a tired, overworked sub-editor- remember them? – to use proper grammar, especially the use of the comma, as the example below shows so well.

This next item is not so much in our typical look-how-our-media-fucked-up-this-time category but the MGH’s collective hearts did go out to Finance Minister Katy Gallagher’s repeated attempts on Radio National this morning to explain why the Albanese government supports the stage-three tax cuts but maybe it won’t soon, without saying that out loud.
Patricia Karvales did her best to get Gallagher to fess up to what looks like a looming change-of-heart by the government but the minister kept with the line about providing good strong, stable management, that’s for sure, thick and fast as the Australian people would expect of us… It was all rather painful and could have been avoided if the government had shown some guts and courage many months ago.
The Bug since May has been banging on that PM Albanese and Treasurer Jim Chalmers should have fronted the microphones a week after the election and said something like this: “The books are cooked. The country’s in a financial mess. We’re going to axe those third-stage tax cuts that would have favoured the rich and men over women. Are we breaking a promise? Of course we fucking are! We were gutless and got well and truly wedged on all stages of those tax cuts. And if they hadn’t been our policy for the last election, that lazy, lardarse, power-hungry Scott Morrison could still be PM! You’d have loved that, wouldn’t you, Phil and Chris? No, we went to the polls with the third-stage cuts as policy which makes them our tax cuts. So, yes, we own them – and now we disown them! So terribly un-Laborlike anyway. What the fuck were we thinking! They’re gone and the voters can pass their verdict on that in three years’ time. And if you cunts want to bang on for ever and a day about how awful we are in breaking that promise, give it your best shot. Questions?”
The Bug firmly believes that if Albanese and Chalmers had done that four months ago – okay, something like that without the brutally honest bits we were never going to hear in a month of Sundays – recent Newspolls would still have had Labor well ahead, probably more.

A few days ago we pointed to the obvious slant in News Crap Australia’s treatment of the debate over nuclear power. (below)

That item was based on the publication of a string of columns and commentary in the Murdoch media penned by proponents of nuclear power.
That trend continues today with a column by far-right Sky News “after dark” star and News Crap Australia federal political observer James Morrow.
Morrow’s column is basically a call to embrace nuclear power, in line with his fellow Murdoch media columnists. (below)

It almost seems as if there has been a directive issued by someone higher up in the News Crap Australia tree, doesn’t it?
Our MGH researchers suggest two reasons for the pro-nuke stance of News Crap Australia.
First, it’s a favourite wedge issue for the right-wingers in the political arena who cannot abide the idea of embracing anything “woke” or “green lefty” such as renewable energy technologies.
Second, it’s a policy embraced by Peter Dutton as the nation’s new Opposition Leader.
Being the PR and ad agency for the Liberal Party, News Crap Australia is merely fulfilling its client’s brief.

The nuclear power debate has been fuelled today by the release of an Australian Conservation Foundation-sponsored report that looks at the economics of so-called small modular reactors (SMRs) .
It is a fleet of SMRs across our nation that the Opposition and many of the News Crap Australia scribes are suggesting as the answer to our energy woes including escalating power bills and the need to cut power-sector emissions.
The ACF report, in short, rejects the claims cited by the Murdoch army that SMRs. It says the units are actually quite expensive, would lift not cut power bills as well as deliver problems when it comes to the disposal of nuclear waste.
But, oddly enough, our MGH teams have so far been unable to find mention of the report in News Crap Australia outlets. As always, they are certainly willing to be advised by readers if any items have appeared anywhere in Rupert’s rags.
In the meantime they point out that other media outlets have found space to air the ACF report’s findings.
Those who’ve covered it so far include The Guardian Australia, the InDaily, the ABC (well, those woke green lefties would wouldn’t they!) and numerous regional outlets owned by national media group Australian Community Media. (below)

Our MGH researchers suggest the ACM coverage may well be prompted by the fact that the sheer number of SMRs being touted means every community of any size in the nation may find itself a potential site for a nuclear power plant.
So if Peter Dutton is looking for a grassroots issue, he’s found one. Probably the entirely wrong one, but he’s found it.
