The Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, is set to wreak revenge on the royal family by taking up an offer from Netflix to star in the sixth series of its popular series The Crown.
My royal sources tell me that the Duchess has negotiated a unique contract in which she will play every senior royal in the latest series of the globally popular program.
Series five of The Crown which focusses on the royal family during the 1990s premieres in November, but casting and pre-production of the sixth series has already started.
“Apparently the sixth series will cover the royal family up until the decision by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to depart frontline royal life and move to the USA,” a Buckingham Palace source told me.
“The Duchess has agreed to be involved in the sixth series but only on the condition that Netflix employs every available computer production technology to allow her to play every role.
“She is apparently very keen to put her ‘spin’, as they say, on the storylines and the key characters, which obviously has everyone from His Majesty the King down very nervous.
“She has already shot some scenes which I understand both Netflix and the Duchess are very happy with.” (main picture)
My Buckingham Palace sources say that Netflix had approached Her Non-Royal Highness at the time she and Prince Harry were departing royal life asking if she would be interested in a role in what was to be the fifth series.
“She would have been playing a minor role – Winnie Mandala actually – and certainly not one of the senior royals,” a source confided in me.
“Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth made her view known that she would not wish to see the Duchess taking a part.
“Quite rightly the Duchess turned down the Netflix offer out of respect for Her Majesty.
“But following the Queen’s passing, the Duchess clearly feels free to do whatever she likes.”
