Hands up all of you out there in Bugland just so, so relieved that it’s now all over!

Wow! Hands down. What a response! And we’ll take all those tears as being ones of profound relief and not ongoing sorrow at the passing of Queen Elizabeth.

We delayed publication of the past week’s tweets until after her maj’s funeral last night Australian time so that we could finally get all the pompous and ceremony that only the British do so well out of the way first.

What impressed The Bug’s tweet judges most were the tweets questioning the almost universal coverage of the events in the Old Dart these past 11 days or so by the Australian mainstream mediocre but especially on the time, effort and money the national broadcaster spent on the whole sorry business.

Our judges particularly liked the pisstakes on the stories an increasingly desperate ABC was forced to conjure up to seemingly justify the expense undertaken in the process. And they couldn’t go past the wonderful effort by Justine Nolan @justine_nolan (top and below), especially as one, as the late Queen might have said, wasn’t entirely sure if the whole tweet was real and the whole thing might have been made up by one!

Echoing Justine’s sentiments and barking up the same tree was The Hon. Hammyhamster #VoteYes @Hammyhamster10.

Ex Lord Mark of E @edwardatport was another waiting by his phone for a call from the ABC.

Taking a wider view of the “no expense spared” approach the ABC took as chair Ita Buttrose turned Aunty into the 21stC version of the Women’s Weekly she used to edit was Not Aldous @not_aldous….

And we suspect that Eric Schultz @ErichSchulz made his own simple, heartfelt plea to anyone other than Ita who might be able to see the reality of 21stC Australian society, in a reply to Casey Conway who had presented viewing figures that perhaps suggested that the royal death coverage was way, way over the top.

Perhaps the most distressing part of media coverage over the past 11 days has been the ongoing campaign by Newscorpse to hound Megan Markle to an early grave for marrying Prince Harry, making him leave the royal family, holding his hand at a funeral and being black, not necessarily in that order.
