Two initiatives being planned by His Majesty King Charles III are the first indications of his concern about inheriting the UK throne so late in his life.
At the heart of his worries lies the fact that the new King is 73 and has waited all of his adult life to succeeded his mother, our dearly missed Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
King Charles plans to settle any concerns about his age among his subjects by appearing with his wife Camilla, the Queen Consort, on the popular BBC TV show Strictly Come Dancing – the British version of Dancing With The Stars.
“The royal couple have already been rehearsing for their appearance whenever they’ve had a few spare moments in the days since Her Majesty’s passing,” a Buckingham Palace insider told me. (main picture)
“His Majesty is certain that his appearance will settle any doubts about his strength and vitality and his ability to carry the heavy workload that comes with being the Sovereign.”
My royal sources also tell me that the BBC dance contest program wasn’t His Majesty’s first choice as a vehicle to reassure the public about his ability to match his mother’s well known stamina.
“His first choice was Naked Attraction, but Camilla talked him out of that,” a source said.
I also understand from my impeccable sources within the royal household that the new King has directed Buckingham Palace staff to begin making arrangements for celebrating his Silver Jubilee on 3 October.
As one source confided in me: “His Majesty acknowledges that at his age he is never going to be on the throne for long, certainly not as long as his mother.
“His Majesty has waited so long and patiently to inherit the throne. So he wants to cram as much as possible into his reign starting with a Silver Jubilee to mark 25 days as monarch.
“That will be followed by His Majesty’s Golden Jubilee on 28 October and a Platinum Jubilee on 22 November.”
Another source admitted to me that the three jubilees would stretch the resources and energies of the King’s personal staff at the palace.
“The biggest challenges are the three live jubilee concerts we will need to arrange for outside Buckingham Palace in such a relatively short period,” another court insider told me.
