TRAFFIC LATEST:
The editor of Brisbane’s daily turdbloid The Courier-Mail has apologised to local residents for the traffic chaos they continue to experience today in and around the newspaper’s headquarters in the near-city suburb of Bowen Hill.
In a statement issued this morning Chris Jones said he and senior staff at the newspaper were working with police and Brisbane City Council traffic controllers to sort out the massive traffic jam caused by a lengthy queue of Australia Post and private courier trucks waiting to make deliveries to News Crap Australia’s Brisbane headquarters in Campbell Street.
“I take full responsibility as editor of The Courier-Mail for what has happened this morning, although the problem is not of my direct making,” Mr Jones said.
He said the huge traffic snarl had its roots in a call issued to readers by columnist Des Houghton in his regular column in last Saturday’s Courier-Mail asking them to contribute their favourite joke. (below)

“In all innocence Des issued the invitation trying to generate some interaction and involvement with his reader but he wasn’t prepared for the deluge of entries which so far consist entirely of copies of his past columns,” Mr Jones said.
“Des came into the office very early this morning in anticipation of reading a few side-splitters but all he has been doing is wading through piles and piles of torn-out pages carrying his own previous right-wing rantings. (main picture)
“The response has certainly been overwhelming, but not in a good way. The Australia Post trucks and courier vans just keep coming and right now are queued up for several kilometres in all directions from Campbell Street which has caused the huge bank-up faced by morning commuters.
“I sincerely apologise to all Brisbane residents who have been affected and I hope we can sort out this mess well before this afternoon’s peak hour starts,” Mr Jones said.
A spokesperson for the Liberal National Party of Queensland said in view of the uncertainty over traffic conditions, tonight’s state executive committee meeting normally held in the editorial boardroom at the Campbell Street premises of News Crap Australia had been postponed.
