The Oz takes out new award

MEDIA NEWS:

Today’s edition of the national broadshit The Australian has won the inaugural award in a new competition within News Crap Australia.

A spokesperson for the media group said the Bingo! Award was designed to encourage coverage that attacks media outlets seen as commercial opponents by News Crap while also assisting its own business interests and those of the Murdoch family.

“Mr Murdoch, that is Rupert Murdoch, was very excited when he read today’s big story on page 3 of The Australian which attacked the ABC for a decision to ban former cricketer Mitchell Johnson as an on-air commentator in the coming season because he has a contract with a sports betting company,” the spokesperson explained. “The story also mentioned other commentators who had been dropped by the ABC for the same reason. It presented the ABC in a very negative light, as it always does.

“The story fits perfectly the criteria for the Bingo! Award by not only attacking a favourite target of News Crap – the ABC – while also presenting the idea of sports betting as nothing to be afraid of or concerned about.

“This approach fits perfectly with News Crap’s commercial interests – namely its foreshadowed interests in online sports betting. (below)

“As everyone knows, News Crap Australia is intent on destroying the ABC so that it can pick over its bones – only the potentially profitable ones of course – and make lots more money by delivering a far lower standard of coverage or no coverage in some cases.

“Mr Murdoch, that is Rupert, and Mr Murdoch, that is Lachlan, were ecstatic when they read the story and saw it as the perfect inaugural recipient of the new award given that News Crap is on the brink of having a major interest in the gambling industry.

“I understand Mr Murdoch, that is Lachlan, wants to present the award personally to staff at The Australian whenever he is required to come to Australia to give evidence in his defamation action against Crikey.

“But I understand that Crikey has offered to pay for his air fares to get him here sooner,” the spokesperson said.
