Prime Minister Scott Morrison is investigating a constitutional loophole that would allow him to postpone the federal election for up to a year.
The looming poll is due no later than May 21 under current rules but Morrison government insiders say special reserve powers could be activated that would allow the PM considerable leeway to legitimately postpone the poll, perhaps by a full 12 months.
The plan is being “war-roomed” in almost Churchillian fashion by the PM and his closest advisers in a bunker beneath Kirribilli House in Sydney (above).
“All the Prime Minister wants is for the next federal election to be conducted on a level playing field as happened in the 2019 poll,” one of those aides and a senior adviser in the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet told The Bug on strict condition of anonymity.
“He is deeply concerned that the federal election is drawing close and yet there’s no clear chance of a level playing field where both sides of politics can present their policies and garner public support for them in a robust but open and honest campaign; exactly the way it should be.
“It’s why he wants time to instigate a royal commission to give his side of politics a fair chance at the poll whenever it takes place.”
The Bug understands The Royal Commission into the Murder of Kimberley Kitchens by Labor Senator Mean Girls and Sycophantic Brownnoser Anthony Albanese’s Sickening Key Role in Such Typical Labor Party Corruption would take about six months.
“Once that RC is completed later this year, it would leave quite some months left to vilify Albanese in a barrage of Question Time attacks on his general poor character and his pathetic attempts like a snake in the grass to crawl his way into The Lodge and a job he is totally unfit to perform as arguably the most left-leaning politician in Australia’s history,” the aide said.
“An election in May 2023 with the bulk of the mainstream media providing fair and balanced coverage of the LNP’s excellent economic stewardship of the nation over close to a decade compared with a bitterly divided Opposition that had absolutely no qualms about bullying that poor woman to death are Mr Morrison’s best chance for success”.
The Bug understands that Dyson Heydon is a frontrunner to conduct the The Royal Commission into the Murder of Kimberley Kitchens by Labor Senator Mean Girls and Sycophantic Brownnoser Anthony Albanese’s Sickening Key Role in Such Typical Labor Party Corruption.
Retired judge Heydon is understood to be so keen to take up the role that would see a number of female associates beavering away under him that he has already presented Mr Morrison with his preliminary findings should he be chosen to conduct the RC which is expected to cost taxpayers $60 million or more.
