Dutton rolls out nuke ad blitz

ADVERTISING NEWS:

The federal Liberal-National opposition parties have launched the first shots in a massive advertising campaign they believe will help “sell” Australian voters on their nuclear power policy.

A front-page advertorial in today’s News Crap Australia national broadshit The Australian (below) was published as Opposition Leader Peter Dutton was preparing to release details of the policy today after outlining his plans to coalition MPs.

The advertorial – designed and finalised on Tuesday night to meet print deadlines – addressed the potential issue of disunity within coalition ranks over the nuclear plans by definitively declaring “Coalition MPs will give the green light to the nuclear policy on Wednesday morning”.

The main advertorial continued inside The Australian and was supplemented by a smaller advertorial designed to look like an independent comment piece by one of The Australian’s federal political writers.

It too confidently declared – prior to this morning’s coalition party meeting – that support for the Dutton nuclear power plan within the Coalition was “unanimous”. (below)

The page-one advertisement in The Australian was backed up by other ads in Murdoch-owned metro daily turdbloids.

They included another front-page advertorial in Brisbane’s local Liberal National Party newsletter The Courier-Mail and smaller advertorials in The Daily Liberal Telegraph in Sydney and The Liberal Party Advertiser in Adelaide (below).

Advertising experts Russel Howcroft and Todd Sampson (left and right below) said the Coalition advertising so far would have come at a high price.

“For instance, the ad in The Courier-Mail would have attracted a premium because it would have bumped the newsletter’s usual Harvey Norman front-page ad,” Mr Howcroft said. “But otherwise it’s brilliant. Yeah?”

Mr Sampson expressed a slightly different view.

“Did you notice I’m wearing a t-shirt?” he said.
